KERA® can withstand extreme conditions – an example

Food-grade phosphoric acid is certified as an acidity regulator and antioxidant for foodstuffs under the designation E338 and finds use in many everyday products.
All told, phosphoric acid is used in over 40 foods and food groups. The best known is cola, but it is also found in ice-cream, liquid egg and potato products, fish pies and fish fillets, crab-meat products and the imitation crab-meat Surimi, too.

Plants that manufacture food-grade phosphoric acid use special distributor plates. The end product is fed to the next chamber or pipe by way of a rotary motion. Not least due to the strict requirements of the food industry, the material used to manufacture these „portioners“ must meet the highest of standards.
The remarkable properties of KERA® SP 21 make it the ideal material for these demands. Different sized distributor plates are required depending on the capacity of the plant, and they are custom-manufactured according to the customer‘s specification.

The KERA® distributor plate is screwed to a supporting frame. The retaining screws are countersunk and sealed with KERA® FU cement. The surface of the unit is then machined once again to ensure that it is completely flat and mates seamlessly and without play with the sliding surface opposite.
The media being transported have an abrasive effect that results in wear and leaching. The distributor plates, which are originally 80 mm thick, can be refinished several times before having to be replaced, however. The use of this unique ma-terial can thus maximise the service life of this highly stressed component.
