Leak-proof containment basin made possible thanks to BEKAPLAST

News

The company Paul Hettich in Berlin, one of the leading manufacturers of furniture fittings in the world, was planning to build a new drum nickel-plating plant.

This involved converting an existing warehouse, sections of which were to be equipped with containment basins with a total area of around 700 m². It was originally planned to line the basins with a protective coating. When inspecting the floor of the hall, however, the planning office discovered that it had numerous expansion joints. Because of its excellent crack-bridging properties, the specialists quickly made the decision to use our BEKAPLAST PE100 lining system.

Due to the new provisions set out in the „Regulation on Facilities that Handle Substances Hazardous to Water“ (AwSV), the pump sumps in the basins had to be of a double-wall design. A total of five containment basins each with a pump sump were constructed. For the edges of the basins, L-sections made from PE100 were attached using studs and the BEKAPLAST slabs then bedded in screed in these sections and welded. The surrounding floor areas were coated with our anti-slip ALKADUR HR coating system. The work was carried out between October and the end of December 2018 by an 8-strong

team of Steuler installation technicians.
