Acid-proof plastic

KERA® Duroplast

Stable and highly chemically resistant. KERA® Duroplast - durable, safe and PFAS-free.

What is KERA® Duroplast?

We can do that for you

We are an international provider of products and services in industrial corrosion protection. With our highly durable material KERA® Duroplast, we manufacture individual components for a wide variety of process systems according to customer requirements.

KERA® is a special Duroplast based on phenolic or furan resin, reinforced with mineral glass fibers and/or carbon fibers as well as special fillers.

KERA® is PFAS-free (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances). PFAS are the main components of fluoropolymeres like PTFE, PFA, ECTFE, FEP oder PVDF.

The chemical resistance of KERA® products is comparable to PTFE, PFA, ECTFE, FEP, PVDF and other fluoroplastics. At high temperatures, however, KERA® products exhibit significantly higher strength and mechanical stability. Restrictions or even bans that apply or could apply in future to products containing PFAS are irrelevant for products made from KERA®.

KERA® is the ideal material for processes that require maximum chemical resistance at elevated temperatures. Whether hydrogen chloride gas is broken down into its chemical components in electrolysers, phosphoric acid is processed into white acid for the food industry, or tire cord and textile products made from viscose are spun in hot acid - KERA® convince with their outstanding properties.

The KERA®material offers consistent media and temperature resistance. It is not only suitable for simple storage containers, but is also ideal for use in absorbers, absorption towers and columns, including all installations such as different floor types or support grids.

The creation of KERA® Duroplast

Steuler continues the acid proof construction activities of the KCH

The material KERA® Duroplast was developed by Keramchemie GmbH and was based on the well-known Bakelite material.

In 2010, the remaining acid mining activities of Keramchemie were taken over by the Steuler Group. Since then, this material has continued to be produced by Steuler Plastic Linings.

FAQ

What information does STEULER-KCH need to prepare a quotation?

In addition to the geometric dimensions, we need information on the medium or chemical composition, temperature and mechanical load to prepare a quotation.

Where are KERA® products manufactured?

KERA® products are manufactured exclusively by STEULER-KCH in Mogendorf.

Is it possible to repair or to modify KERA® products?

Yes, KERA® can be easily repaired with a specially designed repair kit and small modifications can be made on site.

What are the machining capabilities of KERA® products?

KERA® products can be easily machined using standard hand tools, but can also be machined using machine tools and suitable tools (tungsten carbide or high quality tool steel).

Are KERA® products free from PFAS?

KERA® products are thermosets that are free of perfluorinated and polyfluorinated alkyl compounds. They are not subject to any potential PFAS restrictions.

Can KERA® products be compared to other commercially available thermoplastics?

KERA® products were developed for the chemical industry and are comparable to high quality thermoplastics in terms of resistance. However, the stability and temperature resistance is much higher, so KERA® products often do not require additional lamination with carrier material.

Is it possible to customise the formulation of the KERA® product?

KERA® products can be adapted to specific requirements (chemical, mechanical, thermal). STEULER-KCH has chemical engineers, laboratories and experienced application technicians who can provide this service if required.

Does STEULER-KCH have its own in-house design and engineering department?

A team of well-trained engineers and statical experts in our own design department work out design and production documents.

In addition, STEULER-KCH offers special calculations such as Finite Element Analysis (FEA) as a service.
